James Purdey & Sons #25923 Circa 1945
Excellent and almost new Purdey single non selective trigger, self-opening sidelock ejector light game gun with two sets of barrels. First 26 inch barrel measure R/L bores .735/.733; chokes .040/.040 and walls .029/.030. This tightly choked set of barrels is identified with the word "CHOKE" inscribed on the barrel hook. The second 26 inch set measures bores .734/.734; chokes .010/.010 and the walls .033/.034. Both barrels are proofed for 1 18 oz. Well figured English stock measures 14 5/8 x 2 x 1 1/2 x 3/8 cast off to a checkered horn butt plate. The gun weighs 6-8 with both sets of barrels. Original oak and leather case holds gun with both sets of barrels and most of its original factory accessories such as the oil tank, grease pot, snap caps, two piece ebony cleaning rod, black leather envelope with drop through brush, red leather envelope with cleaning heads, ivory container with proper extra firing pins and ebony handled turn screw and firing pin disc remover. The Factory workers of this fine gun as seen on the various parts and from the records are as follows; locks- Edward Chilton, barrels-Jack Aldous, action filer- Maurice Timbers, original gated single trigger by Harry Lawrence, original customer M Nawling (October 46), Returned to Purdey for second set of barrels in 48 by second owner J W W, stocker-Philip Dean, finisher-Michael Miles, ejectors- Charles Sadler, charcoal bluing and color hardening- Daniel O'Brien Sr. and the engraving by Harry Kell. Highly conditioned and desirable gun for all practical purposes.
